Meet Dr. Al

He and his amazing wife, Joanna, have four wonderful children – Katalina, Maxwell, Lucia and Solana – and three energetic dogs – Porky, Tuffy, and Ralfy. This vibrant modern family enjoys time with each other adventuring, traveling, playing, and relaxing in what seems like a real-life warm, loving, comedic family sitcom…the next great, feel-good, hit series for television. Dr. Al’s patients also make up this family…his family, making it easy to see from where his truly caring nature comes.

Your child’s first visit to the dentist is an important one. It is our goal to make every visit enjoyable and positive. We use the first visit to get to know your child and gain his or her confidence in us, to assess your child’s dental needs, and to evaluate behavior so as to determine the best approach to take in any necessary treatments.
The first visit to the office can be a challenging and new experience for many children, especially if they have had a negative experience in another dental office. Dr. Al and the All-Star Team are skilled at connecting with and making the experience positive for your little ones.

Orthodontic Options
Orthotropics is a philosophy and treatment focused on proper and harmonious facial development. Its primary objective is a correction of unfavorable growth pattern of both jaws
Invisalign is a form of orthodontics that use clear tray aligners. They’re made of Invisalign’s own plastic, and are strong enough to put pressure on specific parts of your teeth to slowly move them into a better position.
Orthodontics focuses primarily on straightening misaligned teeth. The main goal is to create a great smile with perfect tooth alignment, and a proper bite (occlusion).
Expecting Moms
First off…CONGRATULATIONS! At Lake Cities Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we know moms are amazing. Moms are also some of the world’s real-life superheroes, and superheroes need premier care, too! If you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, your oral health is very important to you and your baby. Unhealthy gums and teeth have been shown to have negative affects in unborn children. Healthy smiles for your baby begin during pregnancy, so we encourage pregnant moms to take advantage of our complimentary consultations at Lake Cities Dentistry & Orthodontics to discuss steps you can take during your pregnancy to promote good oral health for mom and baby.
An easy way to give your baby a healthy start is to take care of your dental health while you are pregnant. Seeing a dental provider while you are pregnant is both safe and necessary. So, while you’re making your prenatal medical appointments, add a complementary dental consultation for expecting moms to the list.
Once your baby is here, remember to wipe their gums with a soft cloth after feedings, avoid putting him or her down to bed with a bottle, and to see a dental provider by age one. Doing all of these things while pregnant and continuing good habits after your baby is born will give them the best chance for a lifetime of good oral health.
Tethered oral tissues (TOTs), including tongue-ties, lip-ties, and even ties of buccal tissue, can make life very difficult for new babies and their parents. If you feel that your baby is having a difficult time feeding, give us a call and schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss solutions. We’re here with you, and we’re here for you, too.
If your child has suffered a blow to the head, has lost conscienceless, or any other life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room. If your child faces a dental emergency, call us immediately. We are always here to assist when your child’s dental health is at risk. Here are some tips on dealing with urgent dental situations:
Knocked out Teeth (Permanent)
If your child knocks out a PERMANENT tooth, this is a dental emergency. Put the tooth in milk; not water. Call our office immediately. Try not to touch the root of the tooth. If this happens at school or a sporting event, look for an athletic trainer or a school nurse to see if they have Sav-A-Tooth Solution. This solution keeps the cells of the tooth living longer.
Knocked out Teeth (Baby)
If your child knocks out a baby tooth, we can’t put it back in the mouth. The priority is to not damage the developing permanent tooth underneath. Rinse your child’s mouth and bite on a cold washcloth. Call our office to see if an appointment is needed. Find the tooth and get them excited about the tooth fairy! We hear the tooth fairy is extra generous with an unexpected tooth loss!
Loose Space Maintainer
Although rare, sometimes the cement that holds a space maintainer in place can fail. Usually this failure is related to consuming sticky candy or biting on something very hard that dislodges the the metal band. Regardless of the cause, as soon as space maintainer becomes loose it needs to be removed from the child’s mouth, cleaned, and recemented if possible. If the space maintainer comes completely out at home, try to save it as it is custom fit for your child’s tooth.
Toothache
If your child has suffered a blow to the head, has lost conscienceless, or any other life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room. If your child faces a dental emergency, call us immediately. We are always here to assist when your child’s dental health is at risk. Here are some tips on dealing with urgent dental situations:
Facial Swelling
If you notice facial swelling or a swollen cheek, please call our office immediately. However, if facial swelling approaches the eye or is causing your child to have trouble breathing, this is a medical emergency and you need to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Broken Tooth/ Filling Knocked Out of Tooth
If your child breaks or chips a permanent tooth, try to find the pieces of the tooth, apply a cold compress to the area and call our office to make an appointment.
Cut Lip, Tongue or Cheek
If your child falls or has trauma to the lips gums or cheek, apply a cold compress to the sites that are bleeding. Inspect the mouth to see if any teeth are loose. Give Motrin (preferred) or Tylenol to reduce inflammation and pain. Call our office to see if an appointment is needed.
So Fresh & So Clean
Here at Lake Cities Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we are state-of-the-art in everything we do, including disinfection and sterilization. We utilize the most up-to-date infection control policies and systems to make sure we provide our community with a great wellness experience each and every visit.
We also employ incomparable air purification technology that uses germicidal UV-C light, photocatalytic oxidation, and hyperHEPA filtration in an effort to provide air so fresh and so clean, you could eat, drink, and live off of it!
Our Commitment.
Our Community.
It’s one thing to give like there’s no tomorrow. It’s a completely different thing to give because there’s a bright road ahead. Many dental offices are so focused on margins, revenue, and profit that they don’t value how essential it is to truly teach kids how to care for their smiles.
We are Lake Cities Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, and we think and feel different. That’s why we will always provide thorough guidance on maintaining your child’s smile and (should you want one) we will always have complimentary dental kits with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss for all kids and all sizes of kids’ teeth.
We understand that the fundamental unit of healthcare is the patient-provider relationship, and in pediatrics this relationship is even more special because of the role of parents and guardians. We believe the relationship between patient, provider, and parent is sacred, and one of our main objectives is protecting this relationship from any and all outside influence.
We are not a thinly spread chain of dental offices with an exit strategy to sell out to a private equity partner. We are not affiliated with or owned by a corporation that focuses on profiting at any expense. We don’t have a marketing and management group telling us we need to hit production goals and revenue targets.
We are Lake Cities Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics – where every kid is awesome. When you’re here, you’re home, so smile and shine on.
